• Ikea is set to split with Cake as the furniture giant pushes for better integration across its UK PR and marketing activity. The Swedish firm has initiated early-stage talks with a range of agencies as it trawls for new consumer PR help.
• The News of the World’s former executive Neil Wallis is to speak at the PRCA’s The Future of Communications After Leveson conference on 14^th March. Wallis, who was recently told he will not face phone-hacking charges, will be joined by Telegraph Media Group executive director Lord Black, who played a key part in the Leveson Inquiry.

Good news for marketers was published yesterday in the Evening Standard, with figures released by The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) indicating that their salaries were amongst the few that were seeing a rise.

• Research from the CIPR has revealed the average salary of in-house private sector comms professionals has leapt by 14 per cent year on year to £61,920, taking the average wage above those in agencies for the first time.
• Diageo has shifted a large chunk of its £1m Smirnoff work from Splendid to GolinHarris. GolinHarris will now look after consumer PR across Britain as well as managing Western European PR for the vodka brand.

• Royal Mail has selected its agency line-up to lead the UK’s most significant privatisation since the sell-off of the railways 20 years ago. The company has called in City PR specialist Tuchlan Communications to lead comms on what is likely to be one of the highest profile UK transactions in a generation.
• The body that promotes London’s West End has issued a PR brief to target wealthy travellers. It is holding a consumer and corporate pitch to boost its London Luxury Quarter.

• Europe’s biggest frozen food group, Birds Eye, is overhauling its comms as the sector fights to boost its credibility in the UK. The owner has now shifted its Europe-wide corporate work to incumbent financial agency Pelham Bell Pottinger.
• Red Bull has switched its high-profile sports brief from Pretty Green to Pitch.

• Daniel J Edelman, founder of the global PR group, has died aged 92. He started the Edelman agency in Chicago in 1952, opened the London office in 1968 and remained chairman of the company, with his son Richard as chief executive.
• The Saudu Basic Industries Corporation has appointed the Interpublic Group as its global comms agency. The PR part of the brief, believed to be one of the biggest in the world and worth a significant seven-figure annual sum, will primarily be handled by Weber Shandwick.
