This week I had a fantastic opportunity to complete five days of work experience at JFL Search & Selection – a PR recruitment agency in London. During the course of the week I took on many responsibilities such as writing multiple job descriptions, editing and uploading CVs to the company’s database, making spreadsheets of various PR agencies in central London, creating ‘canva’ adverts as well as sitting in on interviews. I also took on other responsibilities such as: answering the office phone, welcoming clients into the office and making coffee for the team members.
By taking on these responsibilities I have managed to build many core skills, in particular, my writing and communication skills. Composing job descriptions has definitely helped me to improve my writing skills and producing the ‘canva’ adverts has strengthened my creative and advertising skills. Through sitting in on interviews, I was able to take thorough notes and thus learn the kind of questions I may get asked in a future interview and how to respond appropriately. Additionally, by using the company’s database I was able to enhance my technical skills, which will prove very useful for later life when I enter a job of my own.
Moreover, working in an office environment has taught me numerous important skills including how to communicate with clients and how to collaborate with other team members, as well as how to work individually by myself.
After working in a recruitment office for the past five days and thoroughly enjoying my time here, I believe recruitment or PR is an excellent career to go into, mostly because it helps to strengthen both your verbal and written communication skills, which are incredibly important for everyday life. If you have a passion for writing and enjoy speaking with other people, PR or recruitment could be the right career path for you.
