With Q4 firmly in our sights, it’s time for our final trends and predictions of the year!
CANDIDATE DRIVEN MARKET
Across all levels and sectors, we have witnessed a very candidate driven market. The end of summer and the beginning of autumn often urges candidates to reassess their job as the change of season brings with it a sense of new beginnings. Q3 has been our busiest and most successful quarter of the year, with an increased number of roles at the senior level and the junior-mid level has remained extremely busy.
We also saw candidates interviewing at lots of different places, forcing clients to make decisions to ensure they didn’t miss out on the right person.
The three sectors which were especially busy from July-September were consumer, technology and professional services. During the lead up to Christmas, consumer roles tend to increase in number as companies prepare for the festive season, making Q4 the ideal time to recruit.
We haven’t seen much of an impact of Brexit on recruitment, some companies are beginning to look for senior Tory candidates, but other than this, most seem to just be getting on with it.
Across both agency and in-house, there has been a definite increase in flexible working at the senior level, with agencies offering more 4-day weeks and in-house clients offering senior candidates the chance to work from home 1 or 2 times a week.
There have also been a lot of interim and contract roles across all levels, with some clients even looking for freelance junior PRs which is something we very rarely witness. This is great news for junior PRs who are studying for a masters alongside working or those who want to work 4 days a week and spend the other day focusing on a hobby or pursuing a different job.
This all comes in the wake of clients becoming more aware of the importance of wellness and creating a good work-life balance.
September was our most successful month so far this year and we think this will continue into Q4. The final quarter of the year is always one of our busiest as clients have end of year budgets to use, and with December being a shorter working month because of Christmas, the majority of recruitment is pushed into October and November. We have some fantastic clients on our books currently and our candidates are keen to find their next role, so we’re feeling very positive for Q4.
Not only are teams using up their recruitment budgets by the end of the year, agencies in particular are looking to expand their teams to help service clients during what will be a very busy period.
In-house roles have been very busy this year and we predict candidates will continue to favour in-house roles over agency at the mid-senior levels.
There’s lots of exciting things happening at JFL throughout Q4. Over the next couple of months we will be launching our re-brand and re-design of our website and we are also looking for lots of new talented people to join our team! We’re on the lookout for a Recruitment Consultant to manage our interim/contract desk, an experienced permanent Recruitment Consultant and we are always on the lookout for Graduate Consultants to join our team!
