THE RIGHT Qs TO ASK AT THE END OF AN INTERVIEW

20 July 2018

We know that “do you have any questions?” at the end of an already nerve-wracking interview can be the stressful cherry on top of the cake, but fear not Grads, we have listed some memorable yet simple questions that you can ask no matter what job you’re going for.

WHAT IS THE COMPANY’S TRAINING SCHEME LIKE?

This is to the point and an all-round great question. Not only does this show you’re keen to get the job, but it also shows that you’re ambitious and are already thinking about your future career – a very attractive quality to employers. It also gives you an idea on whether or not you feel you can reach your full potential at that specific company.

WHAT ARE YOUR COMPANY VALUES?

It’s difficult to not just think about money when you’re looking for your first post-graduate job, especially when you have student debts, but we can’t stress enough how important it is to feel comfortable within your role and with your colleagues. Our 2017/18 salary survey found that a company’s ethos and values is the second most important factor to candidates considering a new role and often we find candidates will accept lower salaries if they feel their personal values align with a company and its culture.

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?

Asking this question shows that you have an air of self-confidence and are interested in continuing with the interview process. It also gives you a chance to prepare yourself for what is to come should you get to the next stage (which we hope you do!).

WHY IS THE ROLE AVAILABLE?

This may seem like quite a forward question to ask, but it’s very common and gives you an understanding of the background of the role, who used to do the job, where they are now and why you are needed. An interview is a two-way process, so it’s important you feel comfortable asking questions just as much as the interviewer.

We hope these questions make your interview process smoother and give you some suggestions for what you can ask the person interviewing you. We’re always happy to provide advice and our insights into the market place so please do get in touch if we can help in any way.
