Communications Manager

The successful candidate will have proven experience in a similar level in legal or financial communications. Demonstrated experience of creating and managing media campaigns. Demonstrated experience developing and delivering communications strategies. Demonstrated experience developing strategy in and evaluating social media. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to understand and clearly communicate complex subject matter. Highly motivated with an enthusiastic, positive attitude.

Principal accountabilities and standards

To work closely with the Director of Communications to drive external and internal communications in order to raise the profile and build engagement.

Main duties and responsibilities

• To support in the development and delivery of the internal and external communications strategies

• To take responsibility for media engagement

• To produce compelling and engaging content

• To line manage the Communications Officer

General areas of responsibility

Strategy and campaigns

• Support in the development of the overall communications strategy.

• Plan and implement campaigns to support business objectives, in particular thought leadership and public profile raising.

• Oversight and evaluation of social media channels and content and ongoing development of social media strategy.

• Assist in employee engagement initiatives, helping to develop and execute our internal communications plans.

Content creation

• Take ownership of the corporate communications output, including the Annual Review.

• Research and write content, including press releases, social media posts, statements, speeches, articles and blogs for the business and its spokespeople.

Media engagement

• Media engagement – idea generation/working with PR agency and directly with media to proactively drive engagement on key topics and maximise coverage.

• Monitor media for mention and industry developments.

• Identify opportunities, issues and risks relating to our external communications or the external environment.

Management

• Line manage the Communications Officer, overseeing and evaluating their performance and supporting their development.

Other duties

• Consult with colleagues, regions and branches on communications needs.

• Provide communications advice to colleagues and volunteers across the organisation on media and communications issues and opportunities.

• Undertake other duties, as appropriate to the post, as delegated by the Director of Communications.
